I am an Associate Professor in the College of Arts and Letters and Director of the Diplomacy Lab at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.

Since 2009 I have run DCinbox, archiving and providing to the public all official e-newsletters sent by members of Congress.

In 2018 I published Congress and U.S. Veterans: From the GI Bill to the VA Crisis.

My current book project, How to Raise a Citizen & Why it's Up to You to Do It, explains how parents have to take an engaged role in helping children to learn about politics and government and how to have a set of hard conversations. Thought many people think schools should do this work, curricular crowd-out in favor of subjects used on college entrance exams, and fears of parental blowback often mean that our kids leave our homes and high schools without an understanding of the political system.

To learn more about How to Raise a Citizen, you can listen here, watch here, and read here.

Beyond parenting and politics, I specialize in American politics, specifically strategic political communication in the contexts of congress, veterans politics, women in politics and electoral systems.
